Meeting with East Riding Directors 14.10.10
Posted by: jeffa in ERAGB News on September 19th, 2010
22 governors from East Riding schools joined the ERAGB team to meet with Alison Michalska, Director of East Riding CFAS and John Wilson the Assistant Director.
At an informative and enjoyable evening at the Beverley Arms Hotel, Alison addressed the meeting and comprehensively covered topics including:
Academies – and their potential impact within the East Riding, Finances – BSF removal and in the possible impact of government cuts, The deteriating fabric of buildings in some ER schools, The Hutton Pension Review, Inclusion and the role of schools at the heart of the community, The new OFSTED Framework and keeping children safe.
Alison was ably assisted by John Wilson and Helen Ross from County Hall as they took a variety of direct questions from the floor – among which …
Do governors actually make a difference? Managed moves and the fairness of the Fair Access Protocol, ER Councils view on School absence policies, Impact of delays with CRB Checks, Child Protection Issues and Future Governor Forums
A number of questions opened into debates as individual governors expanded with examples and experience of the issues as seen from their own schools. As the meeting ended governors expressed their appreciation for the opportunity to openly discuss and directly question key members the East Riding education team in areas of importance to them.
A number stayed the AGM at which the ERAGB team took stock of the preceding year and with governing colleagues discussed opportunities to improve their support, communication and service to East Riding governors during the coming year.
ERAGB would like to thank governors for attending and contributing to the meeting with the East Riding directors and our AGM. We found the debate encouraging and will continue to work to create opportunities to share experience and knowledge with future ERAGB events.
