Vice Chair – Sue Goldlop

New Pasture Lane Primary & Bridlington Sports College

sue n kidsIn 2005 I retired to Bridlington after spending more than 40 years in the world of education.  I began my teaching career in India, teaching secondary age pupils and I finished in Islington where I was Principal Primary Inspector and an OFSTED inspector. Along the way, I have taught all ages from nursery to adults in initial and post-graduate teacher training, with a primary headship in between.  I have always enjoyed working with governors.  I believe they can make a difference to the lives of pupils and staff-but they can also get in the way and perhaps worse, make no difference at all.

When I moved to Bridlington I joined the governing body of New Pasture Lane Primary School where I enjoy learning about schools and education from a new perspective.  More recently I became a community governor for Bridlington School Sports College.  I was delighted when the opportunity arose to join ERAGB as the council member representing Bridlington.  If we can learn and work together as governors across the East Riding, I believe we can be an influential and united voice on behalf of our schools and our children and young people, and increasingly more effective partners with our local authority. As a member of ERAGB, I have worked with ERAGB colleagues on the production of documents for Governors, including ‘Are we  doing what we are supposed to be doing?’, ‘The Guide for New Governors’ and  the ‘Every Child Matters’ documents.

Apart from being a governor, best of all I love being a granny.  I also enjoy playing my cornet (badly) in the local brass band, digging my allotment and chairing our newly founded Bridlington University of the Third Age.  Retirement is indeed a wonderfully fulfilling experience.
