Every Child Matters (ECM)

The 2003 Green Paper ‘Every Child Matters’ was the first response of government to a number of tragic child deaths such as that of Victoria Climbié. The Children Act 2004 encapsulated the Green Paper in legal terms and provided the basis for a radical overhaul of children’s services. This lead in turn to the Education and Inspections Act 2006 which further outlined the responsibilities of education, health, and social services.

ERAGB have produced a 6-part resource pack to present some of the ideas and to help governing bodies evaluate how far they are meeting their duty to promote the well-being of children as required by the new legislation. The ERAGB pack has several key features:

  • outlines the key aspects of the new legislation
  • focuses on governors’ duties and responsibilities
  • assists governors to asses how well they are meeting their responsibilities re ECM
  • helps governing bodies to identify evidence to support their self-assessment.
  • provides a summary grid to record their conclusions

The ERAGB Resource Pack consists of an Introduction, 5 self-assessment guides (one for each or the ECM outcomes) plus a Summary Grid

In the Resource Pack
