I feel increasingly despondent about government (Gove?) back-of-the envelope proposals, often harking back to a mythical golden age and rarely based on secure empirical evidence about what works for the good of all our children and all our schools. Emma Knight (NGA) gave a spirited response this morning to the notion of small ‘professionalised’ governing bodies with little reference to local knowledge. Like all institutions from banks to parliament to the church to school governing bodies we must search endlessly for improvement for the benefit of all those whom we serve

I understand that the LA schools in the East Riding are now going to suffer the financial impact of the PFI overspend. At a time when every penny counts and investment into school facilities is virtually non-exisitant due to the lack of capital funding, I would be interested in hearing other governors opinions and whether they are actually aware of this.
